ARC Region switch adds Amazon Aurora scaling and Amazon Neptune global database failover

Amazon Web Services has enhanced its Application Recovery Controller (ARC) Region switch capability with three new execution blocks designed to automate database scaling and failover operations for multi-region deployments. The new features include Amazon Aurora serverless scaling, Amazon Aurora provisioned scaling, and Amazon Neptune global database failover execution blocks, which eliminate manual intervention during disaster recovery scenarios that previously added critical minutes to recovery times. The Aurora scaling blocks address a common operational challenge where customers maintain scaled-down secondary database clusters in passive regions to reduce costs, but must manually resize these clusters during failover events before they can handle production traffic. The new automation ensures secondary clusters are properly scaled and ready for production workloads when failover completes. Similarly, the Neptune global database execution block automates both planned switchover and unplanned failover scenarios, removing the need for custom scripting and manual decision-making during high-pressure incident response situations. All three execution blocks support cross-account orchestration, enabling organizations to coordinate database operations across multiple AWS accounts and regions within a single recovery plan. This enhancement to ARC's disaster recovery capabilities aims to help enterprises achieve more predictable and bounded recovery times for their multi-region database workloads during regional outages or planned maintenance events.
