Amazon RDS for Db2 launches support for IBM Db2 v12.1 and Db2 Community Edition

Amazon Web Services has expanded its RDS for Db2 service to support IBM Db2 version 12.1, adding compatibility for three editions: Db2 Standard, Advanced, and Community Edition. The Community Edition provides the same feature set as the Standard and Advanced versions but without commercial licensing fees for development and testing environments, making it easier for developers to build and test Db2 applications using AWS's managed database service. To access Db2 Community Edition through RDS, users need to obtain a free IBM Customer ID from IBM's website and then create database instances through the Amazon RDS console. The new Db2 12.1 support is available across all AWS regions where Amazon RDS for Db2 currently operates, giving developers broader geographic options for deploying their database workloads. This update represents AWS's continued effort to support enterprise database migrations to the cloud by offering more flexible licensing options.
