Amazon Location Service announces public transit and intermodal routing

Amazon Web Services has expanded its Location Service platform with new public transit and intermodal routing capabilities in the Routes API. The CalculateRoutes operation now supports two additional travel modes that allow developers to build applications incorporating buses, subways, trains, ferries, and other public transportation options, complete with walking directions to stops, departure times, and transit line information. The service can calculate complex multi-segment journeys that combine different transportation types in a single route. The intermodal routing feature addresses common urban mobility patterns such as park-and-ride scenarios where users drive to a transit station, taxi-and-ride combinations, and last-mile solutions using rental vehicles or rideshare services. These capabilities target applications in mobility services, logistics planning, employee commute optimization, and urban planning tools that require accurate multi-modal route calculations. The new routing features are available across 13 AWS regions including major markets in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and South America. Developers can access the functionality through the existing Amazon Location Service APIs with updated documentation and reference materials now available.
