Amazon CloudWatch adds visual agent configuration to the EC2 console

Amazon Web Services has launched a visual configuration editor for the CloudWatch agent within the EC2 console, eliminating the need for administrators to manually edit JSON configuration files when setting up monitoring for EC2 instances. The new graphical interface allows users to configure metrics collection, log sources, and deployment targets through a point-and-click interface, then deploy the agent configuration with a single click. The CloudWatch agent collects infrastructure and application metrics, logs, and traces from EC2 instances and forwards them to CloudWatch and AWS X-Ray for monitoring and observability. The enhanced console integration provides comprehensive fleet management capabilities, including the ability to select multiple instances for agent installation and create tag-based policies for automated monitoring across entire instance fleets. From individual instance detail pages, administrators can monitor agent status, update configurations, and troubleshoot agent health issues. Automated policies ensure that new instances, including those launched through auto-scaling groups, automatically receive appropriate monitoring configurations without manual intervention. The feature is immediately available across all AWS commercial regions at no additional cost beyond standard CloudWatch pricing for collected telemetry data. Users can access the new agent management interface by navigating to the EC2 console, selecting an instance, and choosing the EC2 monitoring tab.
