: Critical Internet Explorer Update Released |
 |
 |
December 17, 2008 - Microsoft
Releases Critical Internet Explorer Update
Microsoft today released a critical update to Internet Explorer.
The update fixes an issue with Internet Explorer that
could allow an attacker to take control over a users system by
creating a malicous web page that exploits the
vulnerability. Users are advised to update their systems
as soon as possible by visiting
http://update.microsoft.com.
Over 2 million machines have been infected by malware on sites
that exploit this vulnerability. Users should be cautious
when browsing the web and keep anti-virus signatures up-to-date.
Machines are being compromised by malicious sites as well as
legitimate sites that have been compromised.
Organizations hosting web sites should be aware that legitimate
sites are being compromised to host the exploit and take
necessary precautions to ensure their site has not been
compromised and is protected against being compromised.
Internet Explorer versions 5.01 6, 7, and 8 (Beta) are
vulnerable.
SecureReserch recommends that users apply this update as soon as
possible.
